ON TAP on the green

At ON TAP we go to great lengths to support the plumbing industry, supplying them with superior quality products and advice. We recently took the support one step further by sponsoring a hole at this year's IOPSA golf day, in Kwazulu Natal. IOPSA's Jackie Burgess had the following to say:

IOP KZN 'Mike Drake Memorial' GOLF CHALLENGE 2011

On behalf of the Institute of Plumbing KZN, we would like to thank you for your sponsorship for the IOP KZN Golf Challenge 2011, which contributed to the success of this popular event, and could not have been done without your valued support. We trust you enjoyed the day and hope you will be part of the IOP KZN 'Mike Drake Memorial' Golf Challenge 2012.

Warm wishes,

Jackie Burgess

ON•TAP responds to the urban challenge

ON•TAP, along with many environmentally water conscious South Africans, will celebrate World Water Day at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 22 March 2011.

The World Water Day event, Water for the Cities - Responding to the Urban Challenge, will focus on the improvement of water management of our cities in the modern day and age.

Statistically speaking, one out of two people live in a city, while city populations keep growing. The problem is, investments in infrastructure have not kept up with the increasing rate of urbanisation, resulting in unstable water management.

The solution comes in the form of integrated urban management, starting at home so to speak. By emphasising increased recycling and reuse of water and waste, the World Water Day advocates sustainable management of freshwater resources.

Key issues that will be discussed during the event from 20 to 22 March, will include the growing urban water and sanitation demand; increased pollution from municipal and industrial discharges; climate change and its unforeseen risks and challenges; the over exploitation of available water resources, as well as better targeting of the urban poor.

World Water Day is a unique occasion to remind South Africans that solutions are possible. The Cape Town leg of the event is hosted by the South African Government, in collaboration with UN-Water and other concerned UN Entities (UNSGAB, UNEP, UN-HABITAT), as well as the African Ministers' Council on Water.

Join ON•TAP and support World Water Day at CTICC 22 March 2011.

Clean water fuels clean living

ON•TAP supported the World Plumbing Council's official World Plumbing Day on 11 March 2011.

Clean water should not be seen as a luxury, but as a necessity. The World Plumbing Council wants to emphasise that plumbing is essential to the health of people, and also their environment (and the planet as a whole). This year's World Plumbing Day theme is Plumbing Vital to Global Health.

In a published text from 1876, the plumber is described as someone with the same status as the doctor, because of the plumber's contribution to the good health of people.

Although, in parts of the world where plumbing systems are developed, people often neglect the importance of what they are so privileged to experience. Thus, the plumbing industry is taken for granted.

If you think about it, there is not a single person on this planet that will not benefit from having access to good plumbing. Let's focus on the importance of an industry that gives us so much to be thankful for and support them as they have supported our glasses of clean, drinkable water over the years.

ON•TAP mesmerises architects

ON•TAP stores in Cape Town joined The Cape Institute of Architecture for their year-end function on 9 December 2010.

The Cape Institute of Architecture is situated in Hout Street, Cape Town, where they also hosted this well-attended function, with over 350 architects, quantity surveyors and landscape architects arriving to paint the town red. The Institute even managed to close off the entire street, complete with a ten piece Marimba band for entertainment!

ON•TAP was well-represented with staff doing their rounds and networking with industry professionals; a massive flat screen playing ON•TAP television commercials; a Beer ON•TAP bar; as well as other captivating branded display items.

ON•TAP's designer bathroom display soon became the centre of attention, with products sponsored by coveted international greats: Duravit, Hansgrohe and Victoria+Albert. Dan from ON•TAP Somerset West, along with a team from Hansgrohe and other professional helping hands, assembled the bathroom display showcasing the Hansgrohe PURAVIDA concept - including a working shower! Finishing touches to the display were contributed by Tiles ON•TAP Paardeneiland, while Jeeves added a convenient functionality with their heated towel rail.

The best part is,
this wonderful real life bathroom display worth R100 000 was up for grabs through supporting the Green Communities Food Security Christmas Raffle. ON•TAP is proudly involved with Green Communities, a non-profit organisation that (among other social upliftment initiatives) inspires people in underprivileged communities to grow their own vegetables through implementing simple and effective Veggie Tunnels.

(Alber)Tons of fun!

ON•TAP Alberton hosted a PIRB event on Thursday, the 27th of August 2009.

Even though the weather didn't really compliment the occasion, approximately fifty three people still attended - even the suppliers that sponsored the event turned up to mingle with their clients!

Prizes were handed out - sponsored by ON•TAP suppliers: DPI Plastics, Hep20, Kwikot, Isca, as well as Cobra. The event was catered with snacks and beverages - the boerewors braai was an absolute hit!

Plumbers were informed about the PIRB's mission to monitor the performance of all their plumbers to ensure plumbing practices that protects the health and safety of the community. We received positive feedback from supportive plumbers who understand the necessity of the PIRB registration, but they also understand that this will take time to be fully implemented.

ON•TAP Alberton would like to thank their top notch staff, their trusty suppliers, their loyal clients...

...as well as the unknown three musketeers!

ON•TAP hosts PIRB Roadshow

ON•TAP Cape Town hosted the third ON•TAP PIRB Roadshow to assist plumbers in registering with the board.

The Plumbing Industry Registration Board (PIRB) provides a comprehensive registration system for plumbers. The PIRB monitors the performance of all their plumbers to ensure plumbing practices that protects the health and safety of the community.

This has been inaugurated because more and more metropolitans, local authorities and insurance companies require that only qualified PIRB plumbers are allowed to do plumbing works within their jurisdiction. End consumers are being informed to request plumbers for their PIRB Registration Certificates. The PIRB aims to raise the standards of plumbing in the public interest, as well as improve the consensus of plumbers and plumbing in South Africa.

The ON•TAP Cape Town PIRB Roadshow enjoyed a turnout of about sixty plumbers. Here, the plumbers were given the opportunity to raise questions and receive well informed answers. These PIRB events are necessary, because sooner or later all plumbers will have to register in order to purchase certificates.

These certificates will be available soon at ON•TAP stores, nationwide.

ON•TAP goes to Germany

ON•TAP recently visited the The International Sanitary and Heating Exhibition that was held in Frankfurt during March 2009. The eco-friendly theme was dubbed Blue Responsibility.

Designers usually go all-out with various basin mixer features and Hansgrohe raised the bar by introducing partially white-coated ones. These basin mixers appear to be one with the ceramic basin. Well-being extensions to bathroom lines were evident in a display where a series of hot tubs and saunas were integrated into a conscious space. Glazing sanitary ware was a new feature that stood out, with multi-tone colours displayed on one product - silver and black were the clear favourites. A retro-line with practical touches, a few his-'n-her tweaks and cleverly placed radiators with integrated mirrors created an outstanding design where the bathroom was brought into close quarters with the bedroom.

Steve Fouche from ON•TAP Northriding, commented that ISH is a must-see experience for anyone with a passion for up-and-coming bathroom trends. The exhibition was huge, with 10 exhibit halls and each one being about three times the size of the Coca-Cola Dome here in Johannesburg. You need a lot of time to browse, explains Steve.

Duane Seale from ON•TAP Stellenbosch, says that: The world’s sanitary brands at one exhibition under 'one roof' is a marvel to us humble South Africans. Upon visiting Hansgrohe in the Black Forest, one feels that the family values are still alive-and-well after 100 years. ISH 2009 has captivated all our senses.
